TOPIC: Visibility problems

Visibility problems 7 years, 3 months ago #107

hello,

already at the outset, my Reeti had visibility problems: some windows (such as File manager, and different popup windows: System setting popups, or gedit's popup when choosing Edit>Preferences) are unreadable: icons are there, but the icon labels or other text is white on a practically same color light grey background, so as to be unreadable.

I tried different approaches: choosing System settings>Appearance>choice=High contrast looked OK for File manager visibility, but broke gedit, with errors of style:

(gedit:4679): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:50:19: Not using units is deprecated. Assuming 'px'.
(gedit:4679): WARNING **: Could not load theme icon gtk-home: Icon 'gtk-home' not present in theme
(gedit:4679): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.32.1/./gobject/gsignal.c:2455: signal `child-added' is invalid for instance `0x8914828'

Also, with this setup, half of icons on the Dashboard dissappeared: they were black on black background! And with white labels that could be only seen when moving the mouse over the icons!

So I reverted to System settings>Appearance>choice=Ambience, and tried
for gedit the "cobalt" color scheme.
Which gets me back to the visibility problems mentioned above...

Also, I get still plenty of Gtk warnings visible in the /home/reeti/.xsession-errors.

I add the list of downloads for this machine:
reeti@reeti:~/Downloads$ ll
drwxr-xr-x 10 reeti reeti 4096 2013-03-21 11:13 alsa-lib-1.0.13/
-rw-rw-r-- 1 reeti reeti 709862 2013-03-21 11:10 alsa-lib-1.0.13.tar.bz2

drwxr-xr-x 13 reeti reeti 4096 2013-03-21 14:57 libsndfile-1.0.25/

-rw-rw-r-- 1 reeti reeti 116062 2013-02-25 15:28 v4l-utils_0.8.6-1ubuntu1_i386.deb

I do not have any of these kind of problems on my Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
installation on my PC.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

It seems that there is a problem with new packages you installed.

I am afraid I cannot help you on that problem. You should ask on Ubuntu forum.

I you cannot find a solution I would suggest to try to uninstall additionnal packages.
If it still fails, you can go back to original Reeti install using clonezilla (I already sent an usb key with original install image to Nicolas at imag)

Thanks so far.
As for the downloads, I am told (I was not in charge of this Reeti at the time of these downloads) these were prompted-for downloads.
Can you confirm?

Lastly, can you give me Nicolas'email please?

What do you mean by "prompted for download " ?

I can not write nicolas email on the public forum. Please send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will reply you with his adress.

Well, by "prompted for download ", I refer to your recent answer to subject "Getting updates":
" When you start Reeti, if he is connected to internet (either RJ45 plug or wiFi on a box with internet access), a popup will appear with proposed upgrades.
You say yes and they are downloaded and installed automaticaly."

I understood this means the proposed upgrades are coming from reeti repository and therefore safe to install.
