TOPIC: Reeti's not responding!

Reeti's not responding! 6 years, 9 months ago #76

Hi,

Today, all of a sudden Reeti stopped working! I don't know what happened! When I use Reeti Launcher, it goes green but NO joint is controllable and there is NO movement (even its left eye doesn't move as usual after booting up)! However, I can play some sounds on it (e.g. Goodbye in French). I read the trouble shooting file and unplugged Reeti for a while, but nothing has been changed.

Would you please tell me what can I do for that?

Thanks,
Mohammad

This really look like the "classic" power problem describe in troubleshooting.
Could you please try again the unplugging procedure :
- unplug under Reeti (jack power connector)
- wait at least 90 seconde (don't just estimate a long pause. People usually think they have waited for 1 minute but it's only 30 sec. Best way is to take a chrono)
- plug first the 220 vac (or 110 vac)
- then plugnthe jack under reeti
- start reeti

Tell me if the problem still here after that and we will try some further diagnostic tests.

Hi Christophe, the term "classic" in English means "it happens all the time". That is worrisome. Can you please explain further.

Have other developes encountered this problem and if so, how often?

Thanks, -Chuck

I mean "known" problem. Almost everybody using a Reeti encounter this one time but once you know why it occured it does not occur any more.
I will explain what happened and how to avoid it in futur.

What happened :
Internal power converter (19vdc to 5 vdc) powering motors has some input capacitances. If you unplug Reeti 220 Vac, 19Vdc input voltage will slowly decrease (internal capacitances and external power supply discharging takes several hours). Under a given voltage threshold (around 10V) the converter goes in a security mode. In this mode it won't start again (that´s here that the problem you had occurs). To go out of this mode the voltage need to drop below another threshold (near zero). When you unplug Reeti jack 19vdc plug, an internal discharging circuit is activated and accelerates the discharge from several hours to approximatly 60 sec.

How to avoid this problem :
Two solutions :
1 - Keep your Reeti always powered
2 - Always plug first the 220Vac and after the 19Vdc. If you unplug the 220 Vac, always unplug also the 19 Vdc and keep it unplugged at least 60 sec.

Ok, this is not so bad. Thanks, -Chuck

Hi,

I unplugged Reeti and waited for 2 or 3 minutes, then I plugged it back again in an ordered you told me. But, still not working! I can not even turn on LEDs on Reeti's face! Any idea about that?
